Airless spray painting uses material pressure without compressed air. An electric, pneumatic, or petrol engine pump places material under pressure (up to 250 bar) and forces it through a tip bore, transforming the material into a spray.

A pump brings paint material to pressure up to 250 bar through an airless spray gun. When the paint valve opens, paint is forced through an appropriately sized airless tip. Atomization occurs through pressure difference between coating material and atmosphere, with flow rate and spray jet width determined by the tip.
