The mainstream boards include particle board, MDF (medium-density fiberboard), plywood, solid wood board, OSB, and multi-layer solid wood board. Different boards have different hardness, stability and usage scenarios.
Plywood is made of multiple layers of veneer glued and pressed together, featuring high structural stability and strong load-bearing capacity. Particle board is made of wood particles compressed with adhesive, which is cost-effective and flat, but less moisture-resistant than plywood.
MDF has a finer surface and better carving performance, suitable for shaped furniture and door panels. Particle board has better internal stability and less deformation, more suitable for cabinet bodies and storage furniture. No absolute good or bad, it depends on the usage.
The common international and domestic grades are E1, E0, ENF, CARB P2 and HENF. HENF is the highest environmental protection grade with ultra-low formaldehyde emission, suitable for bedrooms, children's rooms and closed indoor spaces and rooms with high temperature.
Zero-formaldehyde added boards mean no artificial formaldehyde adhesive is used in production. Trace natural formaldehyde may exist in raw wood materials, but the emission is far lower than national standards and harmless to the human body.
You can check the official environmental protection test report, formaldehyde emission data and product certification. Qualified regular boards will have complete inspection documents and clear grade marks.
The conventional mainstream thicknesses are 9mm, 12mm, 15mm and 18mm. 18mm boards are mostly used for cabinet bodies and furniture main structures, while 9mm and 12mm boards are suitable for back panels and decorative partitions.
Board deformation is mainly caused by unqualified pressing process, uneven internal density, inconsistent moisture content, or long-term exposure to humid and high-temperature environments. High-quality boards have balanced density and stable moisture content, with low deformation rate.
