Description

This product is a high-precision, heavy-duty two-color (bi-color) injection mold. In the plastics industry, it is also widely known as a "double-shot mold," "two-component mold," or "rotary injection mold."

Material & Appearance
The mold is constructed from high-grade pre-hardened die steel (such as P20, 718H, or S136) with high compressive strength and excellent wear resistance. Its main body features a precision-machined, silver-grey metallic finish with a complex, highly polished surface that ensures seamless part release. Visually, the mold is distinctive for its heavy-duty red-colored lifting rings and hydraulic cylinders located at the top and bottom, which are essential for handling its massive weight and operating the secondary core-pulling or rotation mechanisms. There are also blue side plates for structural reinforcement.

Performance & Features
This mold excels in high-efficiency multi-material co-molding. It incorporates an advanced central rotary platen or sliding mechanism that allows for two independent injection processes within the same cycle. Its most prominent performance feature is achieving a perfect chemical and mechanical bond between two different colors or materials (e.g., hard plastic over soft TPE rubber) in a single automated cycle. The complex cavity layout ensures perfectly balanced filling for both the first shot and the second shot, delivering high precision, zero-burr parts, and drastically reducing production cycle times compared to traditional assembly methods.

Primary Applications
This specific type of mold is extensively used in industries requiring rigid and soft components fused together. Typical applications include automotive headlight lens housings, multi-colored electronic device casings, two-tone toothbrush handles, double-color buttons, and complex medical devices requiring durable, ergonomic grips.

Working Principle
The mold operates on a rotary principle. First, the machine injects the primary material (Color 1) into the designated cavities. After the first shot cools slightly, the mold opens, and the central rotating platen turns 180 degrees. The mold closes again, and the second injection unit shoots the secondary material (Color 2) directly over the first molded part. This over-molding process fuses the two materials into a single, highly durable finished piece before the mold fully opens for automated ejection.
