About Room Air Purifier

Q:Is a dehumidifier better than an air purifier?
A:While both devices can help allergy sufferers, an air purifier is the best choice. Air purifiers clean the air of allergens, mold spores, dust, bacteria, and pet dander. A dehumidifier can only reduce the spread of dust mites and mold growth.

Q:Do air purifiers help stuffy rooms?

A:Air purifiers are often used clinically, which can keep the air in the house clean, reduce dust in the air, and help patients with alle sinus like stuffy nose.

Q:What is a medical-grade air purifier?

A:Medical-grade air purifiers remove particles that are much smaller than ordinary purifiers. Ordinary air purifiers may remove PM2. 5, while medical-grade air purifiers target 0.3 particles that are much smaller than 2.5.

Air purifiers come labelled with a Clean Air Delivery Rating (CADR), a metric developed by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). The CADR rating helps consumers understand how fast an air purifier can clean the air within a particular room. It shows the speed at which the air purifier can filter out dust, smoke, and pollen molecules (the three most common pollutants).

On average, dust particles vary between 0.5 to 3 microns. Smoke particles range between 0.1 to 0.3 microns. At the same time, pollen particles are 5 to 11 microns in size.

CADR is also measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). To illustrate, an air purifier with 500 CFM can purify a 500 square feet room faster than one with a 400 CFM. Therefore, the higher the CADR number, the quicker the filters can refine the air.

Coronavirus: can an air purifier protect you?

While there's some evidence air purifiers can reduce traces of airborne viruses, research is ongoing, and you shouldn't rely on one to protect you from Covid-19.

At the start of the pandemic, worried people were - understandably - looking for products to reduce the risk of getting Covid-19, and we saw a spike in online traffic for air purifiers.

Nearly two years on and concerns about contracting the virus have dropped considerably. This is largely thanks to a successful vaccination programme that's provided higher protection from serious symptoms, and a greater understanding of the virus itself.

All the same, nobody wants to be unwell if they can avoid it, and avoiding contracting the virus will still be important to many.

But while recent studies have indicated that air purifiers can reduce traces of airborne viruses such as Covid-19, the advice we gave two years ago remains the same: you shouldn't solely rely on an air purifier to filter out coronavirus in your home. Ventilation and good hygiene practices (such as frequent hand washing) remain the most effective ways to protect yourself.

What we do know is that air purifiers can potentially help improve your air quality in other ways. Read on to find out more about the latest research on coronavirus and air purifiers, plus free ways you can breathe cleaner air at home.
