Curtain Coating Line for Flat Furniture & Wood Panels
Product Overview
This customizable curtain coating line uses a free-falling liquid curtain (or "veil") to apply a uniform coating layer onto flat or profiled substrates in a non-contact, high-speed continuous process. Available in flat furniture, high-speed roll-to-roll, and multi-side profile configurations.
Unlike roller or spray coating, curtain coating is a pre-metered, non-impact process that delivers excellent coverage at lower coat weights without scratching or film-splitting defects. It is widely used for achieving high-gloss mirror finishes on wood panels and for applying functional coatings on paper and film substrates.
Working principle: Coating is pumped to the curtain head and forms a continuous falling curtain (or "veil") between two adjustable knives (or over a weir). The substrate passes beneath the curtain at a controlled speed; the liquid film transfers uniformly onto the surface. With multi-layer capability, the system can apply several functional layers in a single pass, optimizing cost and performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is the difference between a gravity head and a pressure head curtain coater?
A: Gravity head forms the curtain by gravity flow over a weir - simpler, lower maintenance. Pressure head uses knife compression to form a precise, high-velocity veil - better for higher speeds and thinner coatings. The choice is customizable based on your application.
Q2: What is the typical coating speed for flat panel furniture applications?
A: Standard models operate at 5-30 m/min. Custom high-speed versions can reach up to 80 m/min for profile applications.
