Material Selection Guide

In the high-pressure environment of 15,000 PSI (15K) flowline services, selecting the correct elastomer is critical for safety and seal longevity. Use the guide below to match your kit to the specific well conditions.

1. NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber): Standard Service
Best for: General water, oil, and gas applications where H2S is not present.
Characteristics: Excellent oil resistance and mechanical strength.
Temperature Range: -30°C to +100°C (-22°F to +212°F).
Recommendation: Use for standard cementing and water transfer lines. It is the most cost-effective solution for non-corrosive environments.

2. HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile): Sour Service and High Performance
Best for: Fracturing (Frac), acidizing, and environments with H2S (Sour Gas).
Characteristics: Enhanced resistance to heat, ozone, and chemicals. Superior abrasion resistance against frac sand and proppants.
Temperature Range: -35°C to +150°C (-31°F to +302°F).
Recommendation: The "Industry Standard" for modern oilfield services. Highly recommended for 15,000 PSI 3" Swivel Joints to ensure maximum uptime.

3. FKM (Fluoroelastomer): High Temp and Chemical Resistance
Best for: Extreme chemical exposure and high-temperature wells.
Characteristics:** Exceptional resistance to high heat, acids, and aromatics.
Temperature Range:-20°C to +200°C (-4°F to +392°F).
Recommendation:Use in high-temperature steam or specific chemical injection lines. Note: Not recommended for low-temperature environments due to potential brittleness.

Q1: How do I know if I need a "Wide Style" repair kit?
A: "Wide Style" (also known as Long Radius) is the industry standard for 3" Fig 1502 swivel joints. If your swivel joint is designed for high-flow, high-pressure fracturing or cementing, it is likely the Wide Style. This kit is 100% interchangeable with FMC Chiksan 3" 1502 models.

Q2: Can I use NBR seals for H2S service if the pressure is low?
A: We strongly advise against it. H2S causes NBR to become brittle and crack (hydrogen embrittlement). For any environment where H2S is present, regardless of pressure, HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) is the minimum requirement to ensure site safety.

Q3: What is the Shore A Hardness of your 15K seals?
A: Our 15,000 PSI packing seals are typically 90 Shore A. This high hardness is necessary to resist the extreme extrusion forces present in Fig 1502 connections.
