Problem 1: GIS passes withstand voltage but still has internal defects.

AC withstand testing and PD measurement provide different information. PD testing can help identify localized insulation defects that may not be revealed by a simple withstand test.

Problem 2: External noise interferes with PD measurement.

For sensitive GIS PD testing, the test system should be designed with low background PD and appropriate shielding, grounding and measurement technology.

Problem 3: Large GIS has high capacitive load.
