Modular Steel Bridge Description:
The GWD-Type bridge originated in Germany and was introduced into China for mass production through the analysis of its structure by Evercross Bridge engineers.
The introduction of GWD-Type bridge stems from the technical barriers and deficiencies of Bailey Bridge. As is known to all, Bailey Bridge is a common prefabricated steel bridge structure, which is the upper and lower bearing bridge beam with the single pin connecting truss unit as the main beam of the bridge span structure, which has the advantages of simple structure, strong adaptability and good interchangeability. But even if the load is not large, it can only reach 60 meters per single span. Therefore, Evercross Bridge launched the GWD-Type bridge. Although the truss adopts larger steel, the structure is simpler, which not only has the advantage of strong adaptability of prefabricated Bailey steel bridge, but also makes up for the limit of span, improves the length of single span and saves the cost of bridge pier.

Typical Components of a Modular Steel Bridge
Component | Function |
Steel Trusses/Beams | Provide primary structural support and load-bearing capacity. |
Decking | Surface for traffic (vehicles, pedestrians), often made of steel or composite materials. |
Connectors/Joints | Bolted or welded connections to link modules securely. |
Support Piers/Abutments | Anchors the bridge to the ground; may be prefabricated or site-built. |
Railings/Guards | Safety features for pedestrians and vehicles. |
Advantages of Modular Steel Bridge :
1. Flexibility and Adaptability
- Customizable Modules: Easily modified or expanded by adding/removing sections, allowing the bridge to adapt to changing traffic needs or route adjustments.
- Portable and Reusable: Modules can be disassembled, transported, and reassembled in new locations, ideal for temporary or emergency infrastructure (e.g., disaster relief, military applications).
2. Cost-Effective
- Reduced Labor Costs: Factory pre-fabrication streamlines production, reducing on-site labor requirements and associated costs.
- Lower Maintenance: Steel’s durability reduces long-term maintenance expenses compared to materials like concrete (e.g., fewer repairs for cracks or erosion).
- Value for Money: While upfront costs may be higher than some alternatives, long-term savings in maintenance and lifespan justify the investment.
Modular Steel Bridge Advantage
1. Rapid Construction and Installation
- Modular Design: Components are pre-fabricated in controlled factory environments, minimizing on-site construction time. Modules can be assembled quickly, even in challenging terrains or remote locations.
2. High Strength and Durability
- Robust Material: Steel is inherently strong, resistant to heavy loads, and capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions (e.g., earthquakes, floods, corrosion when properly treated).
3. Flexibility and Adaptability
- Customizable Modules: Easily modified or expanded by adding/removing sections, allowing the bridge to adapt to changing traffic needs or route adjustments.
Modular Steel Bridge Application
- Civil Engineering: Used for road and rail bridges, pedestrian crossings, and highway overpasses.
- Military and Emergency Response: Rapid-deployment bridges for military operations or disaster relief (e.g., replacing damaged infrastructure quickly).
Mixture form to erect all kinds of Modular Steel Bridge
Temporary Bridges, Emergency Bridges and Fixed Bridges.
Using the bridge equipment, the suspension bridges of varied span can be erected.
The bridge has the advantages of few components, light weight and low cost.
Modular steel bridge is similar to the panel bailey bridge from their appearance. The difference is its increased truss panel height and truss panel section is larger to afford more loading. Pre-arch method is used to additionally cut down mid-span and vertical deflection to a larger degree.
The components are connected by connecting plates and fixed with high-strength bolts. Modualr steel bridges has all the advantages of Bailey bridge, and with a larger span and stronger load-bearing capacity.
