About 904L Stainless Steel
Grade 904L stainless steel is a non-stabilized austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content. This high alloy stainless steel contains added copper to improve resistance to strong reducing acids such as sulphuric acid. The material offers excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and crevice corrosion, is non-magnetic, and provides superior formability, toughness, and weldability.
While containing high amounts of expensive ingredients like molybdenum and nickel, 904L provides excellent resistance to warm seawater and chloride attack. Its high nickel content contributes to exceptional stress corrosion cracking resistance, while copper addition enhances resistance to sulphuric acid and other reducing agents.
