Compared with 316L and 317L austenitic stainless steel, 2205 alloy provides superior pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion resistance. It features high corrosion resistance, lower thermal expansion coefficient, and higher thermal conductivity than austenitic grades.
The compressive strength of 2205 is twice that of austenitic stainless steel, allowing designers to reduce weight while maintaining performance, resulting in cost savings compared to 316L and 317L.

2205 duplex stainless steel is particularly suitable for temperature ranges of -50°F to +600°F. For applications beyond this range, special considerations may be required, especially for welded structures.
