Alloy 321 (UNS S32100) is a titanium-stabilized stainless steel that provides excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion following exposure to temperatures between 800-1500°F (427-816°C). The addition of titanium stabilizes the alloy against chromium carbide formation.
321 stainless steel offers superior high-temperature performance with enhanced creep and stress rupture properties compared to Alloy 304 and 304L. It maintains excellent oxidation resistance up to 1500°F (816°C) and provides good low-temperature toughness.
Alloy 321H (UNS S32109) features higher carbon content (0.04-0.10) for improved creep resistance and elevated temperature strength above 1000°F (537°C). Both 321 and 321H variants cannot be hardened by heat treatment but respond well to cold working and standard fabrication processes.
