Alloy 347 (S34700) is a stabilized stainless steel that offers excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion following exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range from 800 to 1500°F (427 to 816°C). The alloy is stabilized by the addition of columbium and tantalum, providing superior high-temperature mechanical properties and enhanced creep resistance compared to standard 304 and 304L alloys.
Material Properties
General Characteristics
Alloy 347 (UNS S34700) is a columbium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel with excellent general corrosion resistance and superior performance in strong oxidizing conditions. It maintains excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion after exposure to temperatures between 800-1500°F (427-816°C), with good oxidation resistance and creep strength up to 1500°F (816°C).
Corrosion Resistance
- Excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion in chromium carbide precipitation range
- Superior performance in strongly oxidizing environments up to 1500°F (816°C)
- Suitable for nitric solutions and diluted organic acids at moderate temperatures
- Resists polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking in hydrocarbon service
- Not recommended for chloride solutions or sulfuric acid applications
