Common Faults and Countermeasures

• Abnormal Air-Fuel Mixture: If the mass airflow sensor signal is inaccurate, it can lead to a rich or lean air-fuel mixture. A rich mixture may cause the vehicle to emit black smoke and experience a sharp increase in fuel consumption; a lean mixture will result in insufficient power and idle vibration. These issues are often caused by sensor contamination or poor circuit contact. First, clean the sensor; if ineffective, check the circuit or replace the component.
• Fault Code Indications: When the vehicle instrument displays fault codes such as P0100 (sensor malfunction), P0102 (low signal), or P0103 (high signal), it may indicate sensor open circuit, short circuit, or internal component damage. Professional equipment is required to detect and replace the faulty parts.

• Regular Cleaning: The heating element of the hot-wire mass airflow sensor is prone to oil and dust accumulation. Clean components such as the platinum hot wire with a carburetor cleaner, and allow them to air-dry naturally; do not use hot air. Some hot-wire mass airflow sensors automatically heat and self-clean after shutdown, requiring no manual operation.
• Condition Monitoring: In daily use, pay attention to changes in vehicle fuel consumption and power. Regularly read data streams using professional equipment; normal data stream during idle is generally 2-3g/s. If data is abnormal, promptly inspect the sensor and intake manifold for leaks.
• Proper Usage: Avoid using low-quality air filters to prevent impurities from entering and scratching the sensor components. Replace the air filter on schedule to reduce the risk of sensor contamination.
