Introduction to Duplex Steel Advantages
Duplex stainless steel is unique in that its metallographic structure is composed of approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite. This duplex structure gives it the advantages of both types of stainless steel: it has the good toughness and weldability of austenitic stainless steel, and the high strength and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of ferritic stainless steel. This "best of both worlds" feature makes it an excellent material choice for harsh corrosive environments.

Application in Offshore Platforms
In harsh offshore environments, 2205 duplex seamless steel pipes are at the heart of critical systems exposed to corrosive seawater and process fluids. They are widely used in seawater cooling systems, process piping, fire water systems, and structural parts. Its high strength allows for thinner walls, significantly reducing platform weight, a key design advantage.
