12.5–30 mm Hydraulic Anchor Windlass | Single Gypsy with Warping Head for Small Vessels
Product Overview
This compact hydraulic anchor windlass is a single-gypsy deck machine for anchor handling on small vessels, workboats, barges, and other installations where deck space is limited. The cable lifter (gypsy) is matched to the specified anchor-chain diameter and grade, while a single warping head provides auxiliary rope-handling capability. The windlass itself is hydraulically driven and can be supplied with an electric motor-driven hydraulic power unit (HPU) when required by the project.
Selection should be based on chain diameter and grade, anchor weight and anchoring depth, required continuous and short-term pull, brake / chain-stopper arrangement, deck foundation, hawse-pipe alignment, and classification requirement. The 12.5–30 mm range represents a product series; one gypsy is not universal for all chain sizes. Hydraulic pressure, flow, motor displacement, HPU power, brake capacity, and foundation loads are finalized for the selected model and approved arrangement.

Main Technical Parameters
Grade 2 chain reference values for initial windlass selection. These are standard-based duty and brake reference values, not a substitute for the approved model calculation. Final chain stopper arrangement, anchoring depth, anchor weight, hydraulic system, and class requirement should be confirmed.

Selection & Inquiry Guide
Step 1: Confirm anchor-chain diameter, Grade 2 / project chain grade, stud-link dimensions, and chain certificate information. The gypsy pocket geometry must match the actual chain.
Step 2: Confirm anchor weight, chain length, anchoring depth, hawse-pipe / spurling-pipe arrangement, and required continuous and short-term pull.
Step 3: Confirm brake and chain-stopper arrangement, chain lead direction, deck foundation, available footprint, shaft / motor orientation, and whether the project is newbuilding or replacement.
Step 4: Confirm hydraulic power arrangement: dedicated electric-hydraulic HPU or connection to an existing hydraulic system, including available pressure, flow, power supply, control voltage, and control station requirement.
Step 5: Confirm warping-head requirement, including intended rope-handling duty and any required line pull / rope diameter. A warping head is not automatically equivalent to a rated mooring winch.
Step 6: Confirm classification society / flag requirement, certificate scope, inspection or witness testing, quantity, destination, required delivery time, and provide GA / deck arrangement drawings or reference photos when available.

How It Works
Electric motor drives the hydraulic pump → HPU supplies pressure oil to the windlass hydraulic motor → reduction gearing turns the chain gypsy to heave or veer the anchor chain → clutch disconnects the gypsy when required → mechanical brake controls and holds the cable lifter → warping head provides auxiliary rope handling
Applications
Workboats | Barges | Small cargo and service vessels | Inland and coastal vessels subject to applicable rules | Compact foredeck anchoring stations | Newbuilding and replacement projects
Certifications & Advantages
Classification approval, inspection, and certificates can be arranged according to project requirement, selected model, test scope, material / component traceability, and class approval procedure. Certificate availability and witness points should be confirmed before quotation; they are not assumed to be included with every order.
Certification: CCS, NK, BV, ABS, DNV, LR, KR, IRS, RS, RINA, CRS, Makers Test Certificate.

FAQ
Q1: Can one gypsy handle every chain size from 12.5 to 30 mm?
A1: No. The 12.5–30 mm figure is the series range. The gypsy / cable lifter is selected for a specific anchor-chain diameter, grade, and link geometry. For replacement projects, chain dimensions or a chain sample / drawing should be checked before confirming the gypsy.
Q2: Why does the required brake holding load depend on whether a chain stopper is fitted?
A2: The chain stopper shares the static holding function. A windlass installed with a separate stopper can use the lower class reference holding basis, while a windlass without a separate stopper requires a higher brake and supporting-structure basis. The arrangement must therefore be confirmed before brake and foundation selection.
Q3: What information is needed to size the hydraulic power unit and prepare a quotation?
A3: Provide chain diameter and grade, anchor weight, chain length / anchoring depth, required speed, chain-stopper arrangement, vessel power supply, available hydraulic pressure / flow if using an existing system, warping-head duty, class requirement, deck GA / foundation arrangement, quantity, delivery destination, and required delivery time.
