Naringenin, also known as naringinogen, CAS number 480-41-1, is a natural dihydroflavonoid compound. It appears as a yellow powder with a melting point of 250-251°C. It is readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol . It is primarily extracted from plants of the Anacardiaceae family and citrus peels. It combines with neohesperidose at the C7 position to form the bitter glycoside compound naringin, and with rutin to form hesperidin. After alkalization and hydrogenation, it can be converted into a dihydrochalcone sweetener with a sweetness 2,000 times that of sucrose.
It exhibits multiple pharmacological activities, including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, lipid-lowering, and anti-tumor properties. It can lower serum cholesterol and regulate lipoprotein ratios. It also inhibits the growth of leukemia L1210 cells and sarcomas. It is clinically used as an antibacterial and anticancer drug, with dosage forms including tablets and injections.
1. Cardiovascular Drugs: Reduces LDL oxidation and improves endothelial function.
2. Metabolic Health: Naringenin Extract can enhances insulin sensitivity in preclinical models.
3. Anti-Inflammatory Therapies: Inhibits COX-2 enzymes with 80% efficacy in lab trials.
