What is Cichoric Acid Powder?

Cichoric acid is a natural phenolic acid compound primarily extracted from plants in the Asteraceae family—such as chicory and *Echinacea*—and serves as one of the key immunologically active constituents of *Echinacea*.


Widely distributed throughout the Asteraceae family, it is found in plants including chicory, *Echinacea*, dandelion, and buckwheat; in *Echinacea*, its concentration can reach up to 4% of the plant's dry weight.


Chemically, it is a derivative of caffeic acid with the molecular formula C22H18O12 and CAS number 6537-80-0, and it is classified as a water-soluble phenolic acid compound.


Application


Chicoric acid is a naturally occurring polyphenolic compound found in plants such as chicory and *Echinacea*. It exhibits multiple biological activities—including antioxidant, metabolic-regulating, and anti-inflammatory effects—and is widely used in the food and dietary supplement industries.


Scavenging free radicals: Chicoric acid neutralizes free radicals (such as reactive oxygen species, or ROS), thereby reducing oxidative stress-induced cellular damage.


Activating antioxidant pathways: It enhances the activity of the Nrf2 (nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2) pathway, promoting the production of endogenous antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione.


Inhibiting inflammatory factors: By blocking inflammatory signaling pathways like NF-κB, it reduces the release of pro-inflammatory factors such as IL-6 and TNF-α.
