R-507 refrigerant, also known as R507, has trade names such as Genetron AZ-50, Genetron 507, and Freon 507. As an HFC-type azeotropic refrigerant (completely free of ozone-depleting CFCs and HCFCs), R-507 is a mainstream low-temperature environmentally friendly refrigerant recognized and recommended by the vast majority of countries worldwide. It is widely used for initial installation in new refrigeration equipment and for recharging during maintenance. R-507 complies with the standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), SNAP, and UL. It also meets the A1 safety classification of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), which is the highest safety level and indicates it is harmless to humans.
R-507 is a widely used low-temperature refrigerant today. It is commonly applied in various refrigeration equipment, including cold storages, food freezing facilities, marine refrigeration systems, industrial low-temperature refrigeration units, commercial low-temperature refrigeration systems, refrigerated trucks, freezing condensing units, and supermarket display cabinets. Similar to R404A, R-507 serves as a long-term substitute for R502 and R22 refrigerants (HFC-type substances). However, R-507 can generally achieve lower temperatures than R404A. R-507 is suitable for all environments where R-502 operates normally and is recognized and utilized by the vast majority of refrigeration equipment manufacturers globally.
Nevertheless, due to differences in physicochemical properties, theoretical cycle performance, and compressor oils between R-507 and R502/R22, for after-sales maintenance of refrigeration equipment initially charged with R502 or R22 refrigerants, if refrigerant recharging or replacement is required, only R502 or R22 should be added. Direct substitution of R502 or R22 with R-507 is generally not feasible (i.e., a complete replacement is typically not possible).
The cylinders of R-507 refrigerant are pressure vessels. During storage, they should be kept away from fire, heat sources, and direct sunlight. It is advisable to store them in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse. For better protection, the storage area should be equipped with appropriate fire-fighting facilities and leakage detection devices.
During handling, the cylinders should be loaded and unloaded gently to prevent damage to the cylinders, valves, and other accessories. The handling personnel should wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and goggles, to ensure safety. Additionally, it is essential to avoid collisions and impacts during transportation to prevent cylinder leakage or other accidents.
