Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What are the seat belt pretensioners and force limiters for? Will they pop out?
Pretensioner: Activated by the SRS ECU during a severe frontal collision, it instantly tightens the seat belt by 5 to 10 centimeters to eliminate the gap and firmly pull the occupant back onto the seat - it is a one-time operation. After activation, the seat belt assembly must be replaced.
Load Limiter: When the force exceeds the set value, the reel releases a small amount of the fabric gradually to prevent the chest from being overly compressed and causing rib fractures.
Note: When the pre-tightener is activated, there will be a slight "bang" sound accompanied by a small amount of white smoke (safety gas), which is normal and does not indicate any malfunction of the airbag.
Q2: When is it necessary to replace the seat belt?
In the following situations, a replacement is required (usually an entire seat belt assembly, including the pre-tensioner, needs to be replaced):
- There has been a frontal or side collision and the pre-tensioner has been activated (even if the webbing appears intact)
- Braided fabric is worn, cut, chemically corroded, and severely faded and brittle
- The reel collector is unable to rewind and the locking mechanism is malfunctioning (it fails to lock when pulled slowly or quickly)
- The SRS system reports a fault in the seat belt pretensioner circuit and it has been confirmed as a hardware failure
- Vehicle major repair or water immersion to the extent that the seat/belt base gets deeply soaked
Q3: How long is the warranty period for the Baojun seat belts?
Usually, there is a 3-year/100,000-kilometer warranty for the entire vehicle (whichever comes first). In case of any quality issues (not caused by human error or collision), please refer to the following:
- Roller jamming
- The pre-tightener unexpectedly reported a fault
- Height regulator failure
Claims for replacement can be made free of charge within the warranty period.
⇒ The pre-tightening device that exploded after the collision is not covered by the warranty and needs to be replaced at your own expense.
