GOST 1060-83 Grade 10 Cold-Deformed Seamless Steel Tubes for Shipbuilding
GOST 1060-83 Grade 10 cold-deformed seamless steel tubes are specified for shipbuilding service in boilers, superheaters, and oil heaters. The standard is narrow and technical: it explicitly covers cold-deformed seamless tubes, requires steel grade 10 with chemistry per GOST 1050, requires heat treatment, and sets defined limits for size tolerance, straightness, surface condition, ultrasonic inspection, hydraulic pressure testing, flattening, and expansion performance.

Mandatory heat-treated condition. |
Main Features
- Standard-specific dimensional control:
OD tolerance is fixed by diameter band, not a vague “precision tube” claim. For example, tubes up to 29 mm OD are held to ±0.2 mm, while 29-51 mm OD is ±0.3 mm. Wall thickness is +8/-10% in normal accuracy or ±8% in high accuracy.
- Shipbuilding service performance is explicitly test-based:
Tubes must pass full-length ultrasonic testing, hydraulic pressure testing, flattening to 4T spacing, and expansion to 15% OD increase without cracks or tears.
- Thermally processed Grade 10 steel with defined ductility:
GOST 1060-83 requires heat-treated tubes with tensile strength not less than 343 MPa and elongation not less than 28%, with 30% elongation available on request.
- Surface quality is written for real fabrication risk:
The standard does not simply ask for “good finish”; it bans cracks, laps, tears, cavity-like depressions, and residual copper, which matters for bending, expanding, welding, and leak-tight boiler/heater service.
Our Advantages
1) Buyers usually ask: “Is the tube really suitable for boiler and heater service in shipbuilding, or is it just a generic carbon steel tube?”
Yes—this standard is not a general-purpose tube standard. GOST 1060-83 is specifically written for shipbuilding boilers, superheaters, and oil heaters, and it requires heat treatment plus pressure and forming tests that align with those services. That gives procurement teams a clearer compliance path than buying an unspecified cold-drawn seamless tube.
2) Buyers usually ask: “How is internal soundness controlled for thin-wall cold-deformed tubes?”
The standard requires 100% ultrasonic defectoscopic control over the entire tube surface. The acceptance reference is tied to an artificial notch depth of not more than 10% of nominal wall thickness and length not more than 25 mm. Each tube is also subject to dimensional and surface inspection.
3) Buyers usually ask: “Will the tube hold dimensional consistency and forming performance during fabrication?”
The standard gives both. It fixes OD and WT tolerances by size band, limits straightness to 1.5 mm/m, and requires the tube to withstand flattening, expansion, or, if requested, bend testing. For marine fabricators, that is more useful than broad marketing language about “excellent formability.”
Execution Standards
- GOST: GOST 1060-83 for cold-deformed seamless steel tubes for shipbuilding; chemistry of Grade 10 is referenced to GOST 1050.
- ASTM: No direct one-to-one equivalent standard; buyers usually compare by service concept to seamless carbon steel boiler/mechanical tubing families and then confirm chemistry, heat treatment, and testing case by case. This is an engineering comparison, not a formal equivalence.
- EN: No exact direct replacement; nearest comparison logic is pressure-purpose seamless carbon steel tube grades with matching chemistry and delivery condition, subject to project approval.
- JIS: No exact direct replacement; comparison is usually made by carbon steel tube grade and pressure-service requirements rather than by title match.
- GB: No exact direct title-equivalent; Chinese procurement usually cross-checks by chemistry, tensile/elongation minimums, and required NDT/hydro/forming tests.
Application
Marine auxiliary boiler superheater coil tubing.
This is a precise application because GOST 1060-83 is written for shipbuilding tubes used in boilers, superheaters, and oil heaters, not for general structural piping.
