Landfill leachate is one of the most demanding wastewaters in municipal environmental engineering. It carries high COD, humic substances, ammonia and variable suspended solids, and its composition changes with rainfall and landfill age. Leachate treatment plants commonly use biological treatment followed by RO or NF, and the membranes in those downstream steps must be protected from fouling by a robust ultrafiltration stage. The DOW UF membrane SFP-2880XP / SFD-2880XP module provides that protection with a high-productivity 77 m2 PVDF bundle and exceptional chemical resistance.

The XP version of the IntegraFlux 2880 platform combines the proven outside-in fiber design with increased permeability, allowing the module to operate in the 2.0 to 8.5 m3/hr flow window typical of leachate pretreatment. Its reinforced PVDF fibers withstand the frequent oxidative cleanings that leachate service requires, keeping the rack online even when sludge bulking or biofilm events occur in the biological stage.

In leachate treatment plants the SFP-2880XP modules are installed after biological treatment, or as a direct polishing step on MBR effluent, immediately before the RO skids that produce discharge-quality permeate. The UF barrier removes residual floc, colloids and bacteria, allowing the RO to operate at stable flux and dramatically reducing membrane cleaning frequency and chemical cost.

The same modules serve leachate concentrate handling, transfer station wastewater and landfill gas condensate treatment. For retrofit projects the 8-inch modules fit standard existing racks, and our application engineers help define the backwash, air scour and CIP recipe based on the leachate's fouling history.
