How to choose 1K/2K car paint and primer paint?
The core differences and selection suggestions between 1K and 2K automotive paints
Use Ratio
- Features: It has excellent adhesion, salt spray resistance, temperature resistance, moisture resistance, anti-itching, etc. It also has excellent isolation effect.
- Usage: Used as heavy rust and anti-corrosion for steel plates, aluminum plates, stainless steel, fiberglass and galvanized steel plates.
- Drying: 10 minutes surface drying at 20C, 5 hours solid drying.
- Grinding: 15 hours at 20C.

1K Car Paint (Single Component)
- Features: Ready to use after opening the can, relying on solvent evaporation for drying (quick surface drying, 10-30 minutes; actual drying takes 1-2 hours), without the need for mixing curing agents.
- Applicable scenarios: Temporary repairs, covering of small scratches, DIY projects with limited budget (such as partial repainting of household cars).
- Disadvantages: Low hardness (pencil hardness about HB-B), poor wear resistance, and long-term susceptibility to scratching; Weak weather resistance (easily fades under ultraviolet light).
2K Automotive Paint (Two-component)
- Characteristics: The main paint and curing agent need to be mixed in proportion (usually 2:1 or 4:1), dried through chemical cross-linking reaction (fast surface drying, but complete curing takes 6-8 hours), and have high hardness (2H-3H or above).
- Applicable scenarios: Large area refurbishment of vehicle bodies, original factory level repairs, high wear areas (such as bumpers and doors), or professional demands for long-term durability.
- Advantages: Wear and scratch resistance, UV resistance, chemical corrosion resistance (such as acid rain and oil stains), and a paint film lifespan of up to 5-10 years.
