Yttrium nitrate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Y(NO₃)₃•6H₂O. It appears as white crystals, soluble in water (approximately 25g of hydrate dissolves in 100mL water at 18°C) and benzene. When heated to 760°C, it decomposes into yttrium oxide.

About Yttrium Nitrate Hydrate

Dissolve an appropriate amount of yttrium oxide in a 50% nitric acid solution using a steam bath for heating. Typically, the yttrium oxide will completely dissolve. If a small amount of oxide residue remains at the bottom of the container, filtration is required. Transfer the clear solution to a 75°C water bath to evaporate most of the solvent. After cooling, crystals will precipitate. Collect the crystals by filtration and place them in a vacuum desiccator containing granular sodium hydroxide and magnesium perchlorate. Dry under vacuum to obtain hydrated yttrium nitrate.
