Quartz glass is an acidic material that demonstrates exceptional chemical stability. It is inert to all acids except hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid, making it an excellent acid-resistant material. The material is non-hygroscopic and non-weathering.
Quartz glass features high dielectric strength and low electrical conductivity. Even under high temperature, pressure, and frequency conditions, it maintains superior dielectric strength and resistance with minimal dielectric loss, establishing it as an excellent high-temperature dielectric insulation material.
Quartz glass possesses unique optical properties, transmitting both far-ultraviolet spectrum and visible light with near-infrared spectrum. It offers high temperature resistance, minimal thermal expansion coefficient, excellent chemical thermal stability, and optical characteristics comparable to general optical glass.
The thermal expansion coefficient of quartz glass is exceptionally small—only 1/12 to 1/20 that of ordinary glass. Standard testing involves heating specimens to 1200℃ and then rapidly quenching in cold water, withstanding this process more than three times without cracking.
Quartz glass demonstrates superior mechanical properties compared to conventional glass and ceramics, though it exhibits some brittleness. While theoretical calculated strength reaches approximately 24-31.2 MPa, actual measured strength values are typically lower.
The relaxed structure of quartz allows certain gas ions to diffuse through the network even at high temperatures, with sodium ion diffusion occurring particularly rapidly. This property is critically important for specific industrial applications.
