Globe valve, also known as shut-off valve, is a type of forced sealing valve. The valve stem axis of the globe valve is perpendicular to the sealing surface of the valve seat, and the valve is opened and closed by driving the valve core up and down. Its opening and closing member is a plug-shaped valve disc, with a flat or conical sealing surface. The valve disc moves linearly along the center line of the valve seat, so when the valve is closed, pressure must be applied to the valve disc to force the sealing surface to prevent leakage
When the globe valve is opened, the opening height of the valve disc is 25% to 30% of the nominal diameter. The flow rate has reached its maximum, indicating that the valve has reached its fully open position. Therefore, the fully open position of the globe valve should be determined by the travel of the valve disc.

1. In terms of structure, globe valve is simpler than gate valve. There is only one sealing surface on the valve body and valve disc, which has good manufacturing technology and is easy to manufacture and maintain.Globe valve in the full closing process of the disc travel is small, its height is relatively small gate valve.
2. The opening height of the globe valve is small in the opening and closing process. The opening height is generally only 1/4 of the diameter of the valve seat channel and has very reliable cutting action, which is easy to adjust the flow.
3. From the service life, once in the open state, there is no contact between the seat and the sealing surface of the disc, the sealing surface is not easy to wear and scratch, so it improves the service life of the seal.
4. The globe valve only allows one-way flow of media, directional installation, the length of the globe valve structure is greater than the gate valve.
5. The opening and closing torque of globe valve is large and it is difficult to realize fast opening and closing. Moreover, the flow passage in the valve is tortuous and the fluid flow resistance is large, resulting in a large loss of fluid power in the pipeline.
6. When the medium from below the valve disc into the valve, the operation force needs to overcome the resistance, is the friction of the stem and packing and the thrust produced by the pressure of the medium.
7. Globe valve closing valve force is larger than opening valve force, so the stem diameter should be large, otherwise stem top bending failure will occur.
