Dual-Function "Ski" Design:
Physical Contact (Gliding): The hardened, low-friction "ski" physically glides on a reference surface, such as a steel wire line or a kerb. This provides a stable mechanical baseline.
Non-Contact (Sensing): Integrated ultrasonic sensor measures the distance from the top of the ski to the reference surface without physical contact, eliminating errors caused by ski wear, vibration, or minor surface imperfections. This combination offers the stability of a mechanical follower with the precision of an ultrasonic sensor.
CAN-Bus Communication:
Features a CAN (Controller Area Network) connector. This modern digital communication protocol allows for reliable, high-speed, and noise-resistant data transmission to the paver's main control system. It is less susceptible to electrical interference than analog sensors, ensuring more stable and accurate readings.
Model-Specific Compatibility:
This is not a universal sensor. It is engineered specifically as a spare part for Blaw-Knox S1800, S1900, and S2100 series pavers. This ensures perfect mechanical fit (mounting brackets) and electronic compatibility (plug-and-play with the CAN bus network).
Superior Accuracy for Grade & Slope:
By providing a highly accurate and stable height reference, this sensor enables the paver's control system to make automatic, real-time adjustments to the screed. This is essential for maintaining the correct grade and slope, resulting in a perfectly smooth asphalt mat that requires minimal compaction and meets stringent project specifications.
Ruggedized Construction:
Built to survive the extreme conditions of the asphalt paving environment, including:
Impact Resistance: The ski is designed to withstand bumps and shocks from the reference line or surface.
Heat Resistance: Protects internal electronics from the radiant heat of the hot mix asphalt.
Dust and Moisture Sealing: Keeps out abrasive dust and moisture that could degrade performance.
The sensor is mounted on the paver's screed, with the "ski" positioned to glide along a pre-set reference stringline or a solid surface like a kerb.
As the paver moves forward, the ski mechanically follows the contour of the reference.
Simultaneously, the internal ultrasonic transducer constantly fires sound waves downward towards the top of the reference surface (e.g., the stringline) and measures the echo's return time.
This precise digital distance measurement is sent via the CAN bus to the paver's control computer.
The computer compares this reading to the desired grade and slope settings. If any deviation is detected, it automatically signals the hydraulic system to raise or lower the screed to correct it.
This process happens continuously and in real-time, ensuring the screed is always at the perfect height.
