Principles of Spo2

A conventional pulse oximeter calculates the ratio of pulse absorbance (AC) to mean absorbance (DC) at two wavelengths, 660 nm and 940 nm.

The reference noise equation is based on the R value used to determine SpO2. The instrument software analyzes the possible R values corresponding to SpO2 values between 1% and 100% and generates an N' value for each R value. The S(660) and S(940) signals are processed using all N possible references to the noise. Using an adaptive correlation canceller (ACC) that operates for every possible value of R (i.e. every possible value from 1% to 100 SpO2) generates a power output. %).
