The Manufacturing Process of Paper Cup Fan Blanks
The paper cup "fan" is the pre-cut, fan-shaped piece of paper that is rolled into a cone and becomes the body of a paper cup. Its manufacturing is a precise and automated process, primarily involving the following steps:
Raw Material Preparation: Large rolls of paper (paperboard) are used. This paper is often coated with polyethylene (PE) or polylactic acid (PLA) to make it waterproof.
Printing (Optional): If the cups require patterns or logos, this is the stage where the paper web is printed using flexographic or offset printing presses.
Lamination (If applicable): For cups requiring extra insulation or a different internal/external finish, an additional layer of film might be laminated to the paper.
Die-Cutting: This is the core step for creating the "fan" shape. The large roll of printed and coated paper is fed into a die-cutting machine. A specialized steel mold (die), shaped like a fan or trapezoid, stamps out the individual fan blanks from the paper web at high speed.
Waste Stripping: The leftover paper skeleton (the "matrix") from the die-cutting process is rewound and discarded for recycling.
Counting and Stacking: The correctly cut fan blanks are automatically counted and stacked into neat piles.
Packaging and Shipping: The stacks of fan blanks are packaged in cartons or shrink-wrapped to protect them from moisture and damage. They are then shipped to paper cup manufacturers.
At the cup factory, these fan blanks are fed into a cup-forming machine where they are rolled into a cone, the side seam is sealed, the bottom is attached, and the rim is curled to form a complete cup.

A: We can cut size based on your requirement. There is no standard size.

A: Different cup moulds, paper size is different. Please inquiry to get your exact size.
Q: What is the optimum paper gram for hot drinks and for cold drinks?
A: Usually, hot drink using single PE coated paper or PBS coated paper; Cold drink use double PE coated cup paper or double PBS coated cup paper. Different cup size and different market using different gram. Please inquiry to get our suggestion!
Q: How many pieces of paper cups can we make from each ton paper?
A: Please send us your cup drawing-layout (means the opened dimension) Or tell us your cup size (Top diameter /Bottom diameter /Wall Height). We will estimate to you.
Q: How many cup bottom are needed for the 1ton precut & printed paper (cup body)?
A: Usually the proportion is about 1:0.2 (means 1ton paper need about 0.2tons bottom paper, just for reference!). Certainly, different cup size, different gram, it's different. Please inquiry details!
Q: Can you produce the printed & cut cup paper?
A: Yes, we can do flexographic (max 6colors printing)or offset printing, and Auto-cutting to be the shapes you need, such as paper cup blanks.
