- Ore Crushing & Grinding: Nickel ore is crushed into fine particles (0.074-0.5mm) to liberate nickel minerals (e.g., pentlandite, pyrrhotite) from gangue.
- Flotation Conditioning: Add collectors (e.g., xanthate) to the ore slurry to make nickel minerals hydrophobic; then add anionic PAM (as a flocculant) to aggregate fine nickel mineral particles.
- Flotation Separation: The aggregated nickel minerals attach to air bubbles and rise to the slurry surface (forming concentrate); gangue remains in the slurry (tailings).
- Concentrate Dewatering: Add non-ionic PAM to the nickel concentrate slurry to accelerate solid-liquid separation (via filter press or centrifuge), reducing moisture content of the concentrate (to 10%-15%)
- Flocculation: PAM's long polymer chains adsorb onto fine nickel particles, forming large flocs that improve flotation efficiency (reduce mineral loss).
- Dewatering Acceleration: PAM reduces the viscosity of the slurry, shortening the filtration time and lowering energy consumption.
