Penetrate Block PSM-5 NDT Panel Calibration Block
Penetrate block PSM-5: MIL-STD-6866 ASTME-1417
Penetrant System Monitor Panel,A stainless steel panel, 0.090" thick and measuring 4 x 6 inches. A chrome plated strip runs the length of one side of the panel. Five crack centers are evenly spaced in the chrome plating in order of magnitude; the largest is readily visible with low sensitivity penetrants, while the smallest is difficult to observe even with high sensitivity materials. Adjacent to the chrome plated section is a grit blasted area of "medium roughness", to judge penetrant wash characteristics.
Use of PSM-5 test block
The "Penetration system monitoring test block" can provide a method to quickly determine the continuous performance of the liquid penetration inspection system, which can reflect the various factors in the system. 寽 Chemical agents, cleaning agents, drying boxes and developing agents are normal or not. The PSM-5 test block, also known as the known defect standard block, can reveal the sudden performance loss of each factor, thereby alerting the operator to the failure of the system performance to avoid error and omission. The PSM-5 test block is the most practical tool for permeation inspection to meet the requirements of MIL-STD-6866 and ASTM E1417, and it also meets the requirements of P&WA TAM146040.
Shape and structure of PSM-5 test block
PSM-5 test block is made according to P&WA standard, its matrix is stainless steel, the surface is divided into two parts: chrome plating zone and yarn blowing zone, there are 5 radiating cracks of different sizes evenly distributed on the chrome plating zone, its shape and size are shown in Figure 1. The pattern of 5 radiating cracks on the test block is star-shaped circle or radial shape. The chrome plating area is polished mirror, and the sand blowing area is medium roughness.
