PT Specimen Reference Test Block Type II

Penetrant Performance assessment test block ISO 3452-3: 2013 describes two types of reference blocks - Type 2 reference blocks are for routine assessment of DPI system performance.

The five-point stainless steel chromium-plated test piece is a type II test piece in the penetrating flaw detection series. It is produced according to the standards of GB/T18851-2008 and EN ISO3452-3:2013. Passed the national industry appraisal in December 2002. The test block meets the requirements of GB/T18851-2008, EN ISO3452 and ASME standards. The actual measured value of the artificial defect is based on the ISO 10474 or EN 10204 type 3.1 certificate.

For measurement of diameters a fluorescent penetrant level 2, water and dry developer; colour contrast penetrant level 2 was used. (Update with actual condition, material grade was used)

Reference block type 2 is made from stainless steel plated with a layer of nickel then a hard Chromium alloy.

Five star-shaped defects of ranging from 3.0 to 5.5mm diameters have then been artificially produced in this layer with the five defects uniformly placed according to their sizes. To assess washability* reference block type 2 includes four adjacent patches with roughnesses of R = 2.5μm, 5μm, 10μm and 15μm. With the smallest defect being located next to the area showing the smallest roughness.
