Description

It's the classic twist-up lip gloss tube, but defined by its material: the sleeve, cap, and mechanism are primarily made from Polyethylene (PE), rather than the other common plastic, Polypropylene (PP).

Note: The applicator (like a doe-foot) is often made of a different, more porous material like SAN or has a silicone tip, even if the main tube is PE.

Characteristics of Polyethylene (PE) for Lip Gloss

Property Description & Implication for Lip Gloss
Flexibility & Squeezability PE is more flexible and has a softer "feel" than PP. A very thin-walled PE tube might feel slightly less rigid than a comparable PP one.
Chemical Resistance Excellent resistance to oils and fats. This is the key reason for its use. It won't become brittle or crack when in prolonged contact with the oily and waxy components of lip gloss.
Moisture Barrier PE provides a very good barrier against water vapor, helping to prevent the product from drying out.
Clarity PE can be made in translucent milky-white (natural HDPE) or clear (clarified PE) forms, though achieving crystal-clear transparency is easier with PP.
