The material of the jar is chosen based on aesthetics, cost, and compatibility with the formula.

Material Characteristics Common Uses
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) Crystal clear, glossy, good chemical resistance, strong barrier. Premium skincare, serums (where visibility is key).
PP (Polypropylene) Translucent white (naturally), excellent chemical resistance, lightweight. Mid-range to high-end creams, lotions, pharmaceuticals.
PE (Polyethylene) Opaque, softer than PP, good chemical resistance. Budget-friendly creams, body butters, DIY products.
Acrylic/ABS High-gloss, premium feel, can be made very clear or opaque. Heavy and expensive. Luxury high-end skincare, prestige brands.
Glass Premium, inert (won't react with formula), feels cold and luxurious. Heavy and fragile. Organic, "clean" beauty, apothecary-style products, night creams.
