Manufacturing Processes
Hot-rolled (extruded) seamless steel pipe:

Process: Round billet → Heating → Piercing → Rolling/extruded → Sizing → Cooling → Straightening → Inspection

  • High production efficiency with relatively low cost
  • Wide size range for outer diameter and wall thickness
  • Surface has oxide scale (typically black)
  • Dimensional accuracy and surface finish are not as refined as cold-drawn pipe
Cold-drawn (rolled) seamless steel pipe:

Process: Hot-rolled pipe as billet → Pickling to remove oxide scale → Cold drawing or cold rolling → Heat treatment (stress relief) → Straightening → Inspection

  • High dimensional accuracy and excellent surface finish
  • Superior mechanical properties with higher strength
  • Longer production cycle and higher cost
  • Typically used for small diameter, thin-walled, and high-precision applications
