Raw material pretreatment: Softening of stainless steel wire rod
T316 stainless steel wire rod (typically 10-15mm in diameter) is heated in an annealing furnace (approximately 1050°C) to reduce the material's hardness and prepare for subsequent wire drawing. A wire drawing machine gradually draws the softened wire rod thinner and passes it through dies of varying apertures (from large to small) for multiple stretches, ultimately producing fine steel wire that meets specifications (e.g., a single filament in a 1/8" wire rope has a diameter of approximately 0.15mm). Wire drawing oil is applied during this process to reduce friction and cool the dies.

Stranding: Twisting Single Wires into Strands

In structures such as "1x19" and "7x7," a stranding machine spirally twists multiple fine steel wires around a center wire (some structures do not have a center wire) to form the "strands" of the wire rope. The lay pitch (the distance between the strands) is carefully controlled during twisting to ensure uniform tension on each strand.

Rope Closing: Twisting Multiple Strands into Ropes

The twisted strands (e.g., seven strands in a 7x7 structure) are then twisted again around a center strand (or no center strand) using a rope closing machine to form a complete wire rope. This process requires strict compliance with the customer's specified diameter (e.g., 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", etc.) and length (1000mm). FT).
Post-Processing: Improves performance and appearance.
Cleaning: Removes oil and metal debris left over from the rope closing process.
Passivation: Some products undergo passivation treatment to enhance surface corrosion resistance.
Sizing: Slightly stretches the wire rope using a sizing die to calibrate its diameter and ensure dimensional accuracy.
Quality Inspection and Winding
Inspection procedures include: diameter measurement, breaking strength testing (to ensure compliance with aviation-grade strength standards), corrosion resistance testing (salt spray testing), and visual inspection (to ensure there are no broken or loose wires). Once qualified, the rope is wound onto a reel into a standard 1000 FT reel and packaged for shipment.
