Description
Product Overview

This glass ampoule filling machine integrates the complete process chain—washing, drying, filling and flame sealing—into one synchronized unit built around the specific behavior of glass ampoules. Glass as a container material brings advantages in chemical inertness and seal integrity, but it demands careful handling: the process must respect the mechanical fragility of the neck and the thermal limits of the glass composition. This machine translates those material constraints into process parameters.

Problem

Glass ampoules fail in production in three characteristic ways: breakage at the neck during transfer, incomplete drying that leaves moisture streaks inside, and sealing defects caused by glass composition variations between batches. Each failure mode costs both material and line time, and conventional lines address them only through operator skill, which varies between shifts and between operators.

Cause

Neck breakage comes from mechanical stress: star wheel pockets with hard edges or misaligned transfer points concentrate force on the thin neck. Moisture streaks result from drying tunnels sized for throughput rather than for the ampoule's internal geometry, leaving droplets trapped in the shoulder. Sealing defects arise because tubing glass and molded glass have different softening points, and a fixed flame profile cannot adapt to both.

Solution

This machine addresses each glass-specific failure mode mechanically: cushioned star wheel pockets with rounded edges distribute transfer force over the ampoule body, an extended drying zone with turbulent hot air removes shoulder droplets completely, and the sealing station stores two glass-type recipes (tubing and molded) that adjust flame temperature and residence time automatically. These controls are validated with a documented breakage rate below 0.1% and dry ampoule interiors verified by visual inspection.

Key Features
  • Cushioned star wheel transfer: rounded-edge pockets cut neck breakage below 0.1%
  • Glass-type adaptive sealing: separate flame recipes for tubing and molded glass
  • Turbulent hot-air drying: extended drying zone eliminates shoulder moisture droplets
  • Complete process integration: washing to sealing on one frame with one control system
  • Breakage monitoring: automatic counting of rejected glass feeds process control data
  • Material certificates: all glass-contact parts supplied with 316L stainless certificates

Applications

This machine serves producers using both tubing and molded glass ampoules, including antibiotic, vitamin and herbal injection manufacturers. Molded glass ampoules are common in markets where cost-sensitive packaging dominates, while tubing glass is preferred for premium sterile products; having both recipes on one machine avoids separate lines. It is also the choice for plants that have experienced chronic glass breakage and need a documented improvement in yield.

The drying performance makes it suitable for water-based injections where internal moisture must be eliminated before filling to prevent dilution errors.

Selection Guide

Identify your glass sourcing first: if you buy from multiple glass suppliers, the machine's multi-recipe sealing system will pay back quickly through fewer sealing rejects. Second, measure your current breakage rate; if it exceeds 0.5%, the cushioned transfer system typically recovers the machine cost within a year through yield improvement. Third, confirm whether you need molded glass support, since not all ampoule machines can seal molded glass reliably. Finally, request a breakage test at FAT using your actual ampoules to verify the 0.1% target before shipment.

FAQ

Q: Why does molded glass need a different sealing recipe?

Molded glass has a lower softening point and thicker, less uniform walls than tubing glass. Using a tubing-glass flame profile on molded glass causes overheating and deformation; the dedicated recipe reduces flame intensity and extends residence time for an even seal.

Q: How is the breakage rate measured?

The control system counts ampoules rejected at each transfer point and divides by total fed. The count is recorded per shift, and the FAT acceptance test requires breakage below 0.1% over a full production hour.

Q: Can the drying section handle humid climates?

Yes. The drying module includes a dehumidified air intake option that maintains a dew point below 10°C, which prevents re-condensation in high-humidity plants, a common problem in tropical markets.

Q: What glass sizes are supported?

The standard configuration runs 1–20ml ampoules. For larger 25–30ml formats we supply an extended version with bigger star wheels and a stronger burner set, at a reduced output of about 6,000 pcs/h.

Packaging & Quality Assurance

Every machine is test-run with water and dummy ampoules for 72 hours before packing, and a sealed calibration report is shipped with the unit. The machine is wrapped in anti-rust film and secured in an export-grade wooden case with foam inserts, suitable for sea or air freight. We supply CE, GMP and ISO 9001 documentation, a 12-month warranty on parts, and lifetime remote technical support. On-site installation, operator training and IQ/OQ/PQ validation assistance are available on request.
