The temper designation indicates the level of hardness and strength achieved through mechanical processing.

Temper Description Key Characteristics
O Soft / Annealed Maximum ductility, lowest strength, excellent for deep drawing and complex forming
H12 1/4 Hard Strain-hardened to a quarter-hard level. Balanced formability and strength
H14 Half Hard (Most Common) Strain-hardened to a half-hard level. Popular for general sheet metal work, offering enhanced rigidity
H16 3/4 Hard Strain-hardened to a three-quarter-hard level. Higher strength, reduced formability
H18 Full Hard Strain-hardened to maximum strength, minimum ductility
H22, H24, H26 Strain-hardened & partially annealed Intermediate tempers offering specific balances between strength and formability
Note: As the degree of work hardening increases (from O to H18), strength increases while formability decreases.

Thickness Range
