Introduction

The LR-3030 Rapid Plasticometer is used to measure the rapid plasticity value (initial plasticity P0) and plasticity retention index (PRI) of natural rubber and unvulcanized rubber compounds (masticated rubber). The instrument consists of a main unit, a punch machine (including cutting dies), a high-precision aging chamber, a thickness gauge, and other components. The rapid plasticity value P0 is determined by rapidly compressing a cylindrical specimen between two parallel plates until it reaches a fixed thickness of 1 mm. The specimen is held under compression for 15 seconds to achieve thermal equilibrium with the plates, then subjected to a constant pressure of 100 N ± 1 N for another 15 seconds. At the end of this stage, the measured thickness of the specimen, observed through the instrument, serves as the measure of plasticity.

The plasticity retention index (PRI) is obtained by aging the specimen at 140°C for 30 minutes in the high-precision aging chamber, measuring the plasticity value P30 afterward, and calculating PRI accordingly. PRI reflects the resistance of natural rubber to thermal oxidation; higher PRI values indicate better thermal oxidation resistance. This instrument features electronic direct temperature control, enabling fast heating and high precision. Additionally, it uses standard weights for direct loading, eliminating the instability and zero drift issues associated with electromagnetic spring-based load application.
