The KLIXON 17AM thermal protector operates by allowing current to flow through the KLIXON bimetal and two contacts. When the appliance malfunctions, causing ambient temperature or current to become too high, the bimetallic reed activates quickly at the protection temperature to cut off the circuit. When the temperature drops to the reset temperature, the KLIXON bimetallic springs quickly close again to restore circuit operation.
