This power is regulated by a multi-speed transmission (manual or automated), adjusting torque for different needs—high torque for starting or climbing, lower torque for fuel-efficient cruising. The drivetrain transfers this energy through a driveshaft to the differential, which splits power between rear wheels, allowing smooth turns.
Suspension systems (leaf springs or airbags) cushion road impacts and support heavy cargo, while braking relies on dual systems: air brakes for primary stopping and engine brakes (like Jake brakes) to control speed downhill, preventing overheating.
The tractor connects to the trailer via a fifth wheel, locking onto the trailer’s kingpin, with electrical and air lines linking lights, signals, and brakes. This integrated design enables efficient, safe transportation of massive loads across long distances.
