Closed-Cell Silicone Sponge Sheet Features
- Waterproof & Airtight Seal: Excellent barrier against moisture, air, dust, and many gases
- Low Compression Set: Maintains sealing force and returns to original shape after compression
- High-Temperature Resistance: Continuous range from -60°C to 200°C (-76°F to 392°F)
- Environmental Resistance: Withstands weathering, UV radiation, ozone, and many chemicals
- Flame Retardant: Meets UL 94 V-0 standards for electrical and transportation uses
- Buoyant: Naturally floats due to sealed-cell structure
Key Selection Parameters
- Thickness: 0.8mm (1/32") to 12mm (1/2") or more
- Density: 15 to 35 lbs/ft³ (pcf)
- Firmness: Asker C 10 (very soft) to Asker C 40 (firm)
- Compression Force Deflection (CFD): Critical for seal design and closure force calculations
- Curing Types:
- Peroxide-Cured: Standard industrial grade
- Platinum-Cured: For medical, food contact, and high-purity applications
Common Applications
- Environmental Sealing: Outdoor LED lighting, electrical cabinets, HVAC systems, automotive/aerospace
- EMI/RFI Shielding: When laminated with conductive materials
- Thermal Insulation: High-temperature pipe and fitting insulation
- Cushioning & Damping: Vibration damping for sensitive equipment
Material is typically die-cut into custom gaskets or available in rolls/sheets for fabrication. Often comes with pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing for easy installation.
