WB2 Chemical Seal
When handling highly oxidizing or corrosive chemical fluids—such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, strong alkalis, and various oxidizing agents—standard stainless steel mechanical seals often suffer from rapid corrosion failure. The WB2 Series addresses this challenge through a unique outside-mounted (externally mounted) configuration and a PTFE (Teflon) bellows design.
The core advantage of this "Media Isolation" architecture is that all metallic components, including the multiple springs and fasteners, are positioned outside the seal chamber. By ensuring zero contact between metal parts and the corrosive media, the WB2 fundamentally eliminates spring failure caused by chemical attack, crystallization, or debris accumulation. It is the premier choice for chemical centrifugal pumps, reactors, and agitation equipment handling extreme chemicals.

Key Product Advantages
- Extreme Chemical Inertness: The primary seal body (bellows) is fabricated from high-grade PTFE. It resists virtually all known strong acids, bases, and solvents, except for molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine.
- External Spring Protection: By exposing the springs to the atmosphere rather than the process fluid, the seal prevents corrosion-related spring "hang-up." This also allows technicians to perform visual inspections of the spring compression and seal status without dismantling the pump.
- Uniform Load Distribution (Multi-Spring): The multi-spring design provides more precise and uniform axial pressure compared to single-spring variants. This ensures the seal faces maintain a stable micron-level liquid film, even under conditions of minor equipment vibration.
- Modular Component Design: The rotary seal head and PTFE bellows feature a detachable assembly. This modularity allows for the independent replacement of worn seal faces, significantly reducing long-term MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) costs.
Expert FAQ & Installation Guidelines
Why is the WB2 Series restricted to operating pressures below 0.5 MPa?
Due to the outside-mounted PTFE bellows structure, internal fluid pressure exerts an outward force that attempts to "blow out" or deform the bellows. For high-pressure, highly corrosive applications, we recommend chemical seals with metallic reinforcement rings or balanced-face geometries.
What are the critical industry-specific details to observe during installation?
Stationary seat perpendicularity is vital. Since PTFE exhibits "cold flow" (creep) characteristics, any misalignment in the face perpendicularity will lead to uneven loading and premature failure. Furthermore, never strike or tap the PTFE surfaces; even a microscopic scratch can become a high-risk leak path.
Can the WB2 seal be operated in a dry-run condition?
No. Although PTFE has inherent self-lubricating properties, the seal faces still require a liquid film (from the media or a flush) to dissipate frictional heat. Dry running will cause a rapid temperature spike, leading to thermal deformation or total destruction of the PTFE components.

Additional Advantages
- Spring unit averted from the product so no sticking and clogging of the springs
- Safe operation (no fractures) because of seal face locking by square pin
- Suitable for pressure reversals
- Operation in vacuum without additional seat locking possible
- No damage of the shaft by a dynamically loaded O-Ring
- Small installation sizes
- Best suitable for conversions, no adaptations of the pump
- Insensitive to solid containing and abrasive media
- Advantages of a balanced seal even with plain shafts
- Insensitive to shaft movements because of the stationary design
