M701 High-Performance Inverter – 200-690V Wide Voltage Adaptation, Rock-Solid in Harsh Environments
M701 High-Performance Inverter
The M701 is a high-performance general-purpose inverter, covering 0.75 kW–2.8 MW with 3-phase 200/400/575/690 V input. It supports asynchronous, permanent magnet, and servo motors, featuring onboard RS485/Modbus RTU and single STO (SIL3) safety function. As the upgraded replacement for the former SP series, it is suitable for machine tools, printing, packaging, textiles, fans & pumps, hoisting, extrusion, and other applications.
Key Features & Advantages

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: We're in North America with a 575V power grid. Can we use the 400V model directly?
A: You can't use the 400V model directly—voltage mismatch will burn the internal components. For North America's 575V grid, choose the 575V series (model starts with M701‑XX50XXXX).
Q: We want to connect M701 to our Siemens S7-1500 PLC via PROFINET. Do we need an extra module?
A: Yes, the standard M701 only has onboard RS485/Modbus RTU. To use PROFINET, you need to buy the optional PROFINET communication module (part number: C200-PN).
Q: Our factory is in the Middle East, where ambient temperature often hits 50°C. Will the M701 overheat?
A: The standard operating temperature of M701 is -20°C to 40°C. At 50°C, it will trigger overheating protection. Solutions include proper ventilation, air conditioning, and adequate spacing around the drive.
Q: We're replacing an old SP series inverter with M701. Can we reuse the old parameters and wiring?
A: Wiring can be reused (as long as the wire gauge matches the current rating), but parameters can't be directly copied. Use Nidec's "SP to M701 Parameter Migration Tool" for parameter conversion.
Q: During commissioning, the drive shows fault code "STO". What's wrong?
A: "STO" means the Safe Torque Off function is triggered. Common reasons include unshorted STO input terminals, loose safety circuit wiring, or improperly configured SI safety module.
