Applications & Uses
2,6-Diisopropylaniline serves as a versatile intermediate in multiple industrial applications:
  • Production of carbodiimides stabilizers and synthetic resins
  • Manufacture of antioxidants .
  • Preparation of multitopic Schiff-base ligand precursors
  • Synthesis of organocatalysts based on naphthalene diimides
  • Used in N-heterocyclic carbene complexes for various chemical reactions including α-arylation of acyclic ketones, amination of haloarenes, and aqueous Suzuki coupling
Chemical Reactions
As an aromatic amine, 2,6-Diisopropylaniline participates in various chemical transformations:
  • Undergoes condensation with triacetylmethane with p-toluenesulfonic acid catalyst to form 3-[1-(2,6-diisopropylphenylamino)ethylidene]pentane-2,4-dione
  • Reacts with bis(trimethylsilylmethyl)yttrium complexes supported by bulky amidopyridinate and amidinate ligands to produce yttrium alkyl anilido species with elimination of TMS (Trimethylsilane)
Purification Method
Purification involves contact with alkyl- or arylsulfonic acid to form the corresponding salt, recrystallization in organic solvent, and subsequent treatment with alkali to obtain purified product.
