The Core Functions of Doorknob Capacitors: High-Voltage Filtering and Pulse Energy Support
In the high-voltage power supply systems of synchrotron radiation sources, doorknob capacitors play a dual, critical role in DC link support and pulse power discharge:
DC link support and filtering: At the output of switching power supplies, they form the core of π-type or LC filter networks. Their excellent high-frequency response and low equivalent series resistance effectively suppress high-frequency ripple, outputting smooth DC high voltage like still water, providing "clean" energy for the electron gun and accelerating cavity.
Pulse energy buffering and release: In pulsed magnet power supplies (such as the beam kicker and correction magnet power supply in injection and extraction systems), doorknob capacitors act as instantaneous energy reservoirs, charging and discharging within milliseconds or even microseconds, providing extremely high-peak pulse currents. This ensures a fast rise and a highly accurate flat top of the magnetic field waveform, enabling precise electron injection and extraction.
