Can PDLC film be cut?

Yes, PDLC smart film can be cut, but it must be handled carefully because it contains liquid-crystal layers and conductive ITO coatings. Cutting is typically done during production using precise laser cutting to ensure clean edges and protect internal structures. If cutting on-site, it should only be done by trained technicians using proper tools, avoiding damage to the conductive busbars or electrical lines. PDLC film can be cut into custom shapes for sunroofs, side windows, partitions, or special automotive designs. However, once cut, new busbars may need to be reapplied to ensure proper electrical connectivity. Incorrect cutting can result in film malfunction, uneven switching, or partial blackout. For best performance, it is recommended to provide exact dimensions to the factory so the film can be pre-cut and pre-wired for your specific vehicle model.
