Q: Why does the fan keep running after the engine is turned off? Is this a problem with the fan clutch?
A: It’s normal for the fan to run for 1-2 minutes after shutdown—this helps cool residual heat in the engine. But if it runs for over 5 minutes or won’t stop, the fan clutch might be faulty (e.g., stuck engagement). This wastes no fuel but could wear the clutch faster, so it’s best to check it.

Q: Can a fan clutch work normally if it’s covered in a lot of dust and dirt?
A: No, too much dust and dirt can block the clutch’s air vents (affecting heat sensing) or get into moving parts (causing jams). It might also damage seals, leading to oil leaks. Regularly wiping the clutch surface with a dry cloth can keep it working properly.

Q: How do I know if the fan clutch is the reason my engine overheats, not something else?
A: First, check if the radiator is clean and coolant is sufficient. Then, when the engine is hot, manually spin the fan—if it’s hard to turn or spins very slowly, the clutch is likely faulty. If it spins freely but the engine still overheats, the issue is probably with the radiator or water pump.
