Starter Motor Operation

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor.

The electrical current activates both the starter motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system), which engages the vehicle's flywheel. As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process in petrol and diesel vehicles.

Once the engine is running independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
