Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are user-operated devices designed for simple motor control. Featuring either buttons or rotary knobs, these starters use mechanical linkages to open or close contacts, enabling motor operation. Note that manual starters don't interrupt control circuits during power loss, potentially allowing automatic motor restart when power returns.
Key Advantages:
- Safe and cost-effective operation
- Compact design for versatile appliions
- Built-in motor overload protection
- Multiple enclosure options available
- Low initial investment cost
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via start button or ignition key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the battery to the starter motor, engaging the starter drive (Bendix gear) with the engine's flywheel. The starter motor then cranks the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine is running, the starter automatically disengages from the flywheel.
