Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are simple, user-operated devices featuring a button or rotary knob that controls connected equipment. These starters use mechanical linkages to open or close contacts, starting or stopping the motor. Note that manual starters don't break the control circuit during power loss, which means motors may restart automatically when power returns - an important safety consideration for certain appliions.
Key Features of Manual Starters
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact design suitable for diverse appliions
- Built-in overload protection for motor safety
- Available with various enclosure options
- Low initial cost
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component directs power from the battery to the starter motor, which activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system) and engages the vehicle's flywheel. The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine is running, the starter disengages automatically.
